The Song of the Oak and Ivy

A new creation by the wonderful Corrina Hewat to mark the 30th anniversary of the Edinburgh International Harp Festival.  The piece is inspired by a tale of the Oak and Ivy in the forest, one supporting the other.  Other harp players involved are Wendy Stewart, Mary MacMaster, Bill Taylor, Tristan Le Govic, myself and of course Corrina Hewat the composer.  We will be performing the piece at the Harp Festival and elsewhere, do check the dates page and make it along!!

Solo Performance

I currently perform in Scotland and throughout the world solo Scottish harp, piano and Scots song, though my real passion is for sharing my music and performing with other musicians.  First solo album ‘Finally Free’ is in the pipelines!!

A Little Bit Of Somethin’

I have the great pleasure of performing and    teaching alongside Sara Ann Cull in our fiddle and  harp duo ‘A Little Bit of Somethin’.  Our music is a  mixture of traditional Scottish music and other  styles  and genres.  We began our exploration in  fusion  music when Sara completed an exchange to  Tennessee which sparked a love for Bluegrass and  Old Time music and an interest in their link to our  Traditional music.  We are currently  recording our  first album, ‘Somethin’ for the  Weekend’ and hope  to release early 2010.  Sara and  I perform at Folk  clubs, festivals and venues  throughout the UK and further afield, check the  dates page to find any up and coming gigs.  We are  also available for weddings or functions. For more information and some music please visit our myspace

Tyskie

I also perform in Contemporary Scottish music trio ‘Tyskie’.  The trio includes myself on Electro-harp and vocals, Marissa Vachon on bodhran, flute and vocals and Dan Thorpe on fiddle.  We focus on fusing Scottish music with interesting harmonies and driving beats and recently won the Danny Kyle Awards at Celtic Connections 2009.  Check out more on our myspace and gigs on my Dates page.

The Fusion

The Fusion is a project set up by myself, fiddler Sara Ann Cull and fellow harper June Naylor.  The Fusion are working to set up a summer school for 16 to 25 year olds to explore musical fusions between Scottish music and other genres and styles.  We are also looking at projects in schools throughout Scotland promoting Scottish music.  Our first project took place in Dunblane High School in 2007.  I taught the standard grade and higher music classes over 7 weeks and we ended with a performance of Scottish music from myself, Sara Ann Cull, Dan Thorpe, Ali Downie, Marissa Vachon and Craig Muirhead.  More to come in this area!

Take the Road to Aberfeldy – Margaret Bennett Album

Take the Road to Aberfeldy was a fantastic project!  Working with Margaret Bennett, Ruairidh MacMillan, Cheyenne Brown, Seylan Baxter, Stuart Peters and the Aberfeldy Gaelic Choir this album was produced.  It contains Gaelic and Scots songs, ‘a ceilidh in your kitchen’.  This CD is available at Footstomping and Coda Music.  Margaret and I are now working on a new project producing an album of Gaelic and Scots songs written by Ethel McCallum.
